John Jehu Pyle Steele

John Jehu Pyle Steele has been extensively researched yet little is known about his parents and ancestors. As mentioned above, his parent’s names have been provided from an oral record of Steele family history obtained by John Yates, a descendant of John Jehu Pyle Steele through his daughter Sarah Elizabeth Steele. John Jehu Pyle Steele’s parents have been named as Thomas Steel and Sarah Ann Pyle, and are said to have had at least three sons: Thomas, John Jehu, and Samuel; and eight possible daughters, whose names are not known. Census records of 1830 suggest that Thomas and Sarah may have had five sons and three daughters.

The Thomas Steele (son of Thomas Steele) listed below can be found living in Clark County, Arkansas as early as the 1820’s. The area in which he lived eventually became a part of what is now Hempstead and Pike Counties in Arkansas. Thomas can be found living in Pike County on the 1840 census and in Hentpstead County on the 1850 census. There is no proof that he is the son of Thomas and Sarah, or the brother of John Jehu Pyle Steele, but there is circumstantial evidence that he may be. He is listed here as the son of Thomas and Sarah Ann Pyle Steele because of that circumstantial evidence and for the purpose of future research.

Children of THOMAS STEELE and SARAH PYLE are:
